1. Sera secures third Rotax Light title in Arrow trifecta<=b>

Melbourne's David Sera has won his third Australian Rotax Light titl= and his second in succession by leading home an Arrow karts trifecta at the Sparco Rotax Nationals at VACC Park in Melbourne, Victoria today.

Sera narrowly beat home Arrow Karts team boss Bart Price to take the w=n, which also assured the 20-year-old of a place representing Australia at the Rotax World Finals at the La Conca circuit in Italy on November 27-30.

Price was dominant on Saturday, qualifying on pole and winning all thr=e heats staged. But come Sunday Sera rose to a new level, beating home Price in the Pre-Final and Final.

Sera led off in the 21-lap final right from the start and Price was co=tent to follow his team-mate closely for the majority of the race distance.

But with two laps remaining Price forced his way down the inside of Se=a at the Pit Hairpin, the two well clear of third and therefore able to battle it out over the two laps.

Sera jumped back into the lead at Turn 1 on the final lap and was able=to drive a smart, defensive line over the course of the final lap to keep Price at bay and take the win, giving his father George the perfect Father's Day present.

‘I am so relieved to get this win,’ said Sera.

‘A huge amount of work and testing of both the chassis and engines h=s gone into this win.

‘Bart and I didn't do anything silly out there. We got the gap o= the field and then raced hard and clean right at the end there.

‘When he got me with two laps to go I was worried I wouldn't get a=chance to come back, but I was strong under brakes and got the lead back.

‘I was one of the quickest guys at the Rotax World Finals last year =ut had decisions go against me. I've been determined all year to get back there and show what I can do against the world's best. I'm so glad I get that chance now.’

Behind the leading duo, a spectacular pack of five karts was fighting =or the final step on the podium, which eventually went to Matthew Wall, giving the Australian-made Arrow Karts team and trifecta.

Recent Rotax Light Queensland State Champion Jordie Lindstrom held thi=d for much of the race aboard his Tony Kart, but Wall was able to make his move in the latter stages of the final, with Troy Woolston following Wall through to get fourth, leaving Lindstrom to finish fifth, just ahead of James Sera, Jason Pringle and David Whitmore.

Treseder, who hails from Bundaberg in Queensland, started from third i= the final and in the early laps was part of a three kart breakaway with fellow Queenslander William Yarwood and local ace Rick Pringle.

After six laps Treseder made a decisive move aboard his Kosmic kart, t=king the lead and breaking away from his rivals to stretch a race-winning lead.

‘I haven't been racing as much this season so I really worked hard=over the past fortnight to make sure we had the kart and engines working well,’ said Treseder.

‘But more than anything, I had to get back in the kart, get back on =he pace and do a lot of testing on long runs to make sure I was race fit to do a long, 21-lap final.

‘This was a great event and I am so happy to get back-to-back nation=l titles. This was a quality field and it was just so tough out there. It means a lot to beat those guys.’

Fastest qualifying Mike Godsell started back in 12th in the final afte= an incident in the Pre-Final. The Intrepid driver stormed through the field and was especially strong in the second half of the race, driving all the way up to second place, passing Pringle in the closing laps.

Luke Rochford showed that he can steer a Rotax kart just as well as hi= older brother Daniel by taking the victory in a spectacular Junior Max final at the Sparco Rotax Nationals at VACC Park in Melbourne, Victoria today.

Daniel Rochford races for the Intrepid Force team in the Rotax Max Eur= Challenge Series in Europe, but today it was his younger brother Luke in the limelight, who claimed the win in the race of the day.

The win for Rochford was backed up by his team-mate Joshua De Maio tak=ng second place, making it a quinella for CC Racing, a team led by Clint and Peter Cathcart that is renowned for Rotax success.

A large pack of karts battled for the lead throughout the race, but ov=r the final couple of laps Rochford was able to steer his Arrow kart clear of the pack to take the win by 1.5 seconds.

David Sera of Melbourne, Victoria will represent Australia for the sec=nd year in succession by virtue of his win in Rotax Light today.

Fellow Melburnian Troy Woolston will also represent his country, after=the Intrepid driver topped the National Rotax Rankings in Rotax Light after today's Sparco Rotax Nationals. Woolston finished fourth in today's Rotax Light final.

Another Melbourne driver topped the National Rotax Rankings in Rotax H=avy after today's event, with CRG pilot Rick Pringle earning a spot on the team. Pringle was third in today's Rotax Heavy final.

Two junior drivers will represent Australia in Junior Max at the Rotax=World Finals, with Joshua De Maio and Chris Hays sitting first and second respectively in the National Rotax Rankings in Junior Max after today's proceedings.

5. Brooks dominates Rotax Over 35s, Woolston wins DD2, Nic=olaou claims Junior National Light in support classes

Gerry Brooks was a clear winner in a large and competitive Rotax Over =5s field at the 2008 Sparco Rotax Nationals at VACC Park in Melbourne, Victoria.

Brooks was the class of the field all weekend and drove away to take a=big win, leaving Dominic Albanese and Steven Willing to battle over the minor podium positions.

Albanese, a noted Formula 100 steerer, eventually took second over Wil=ing, with Peter Klein and Frank Falla coming home in fourth and fifth respectively.

In DD2 class, Troy Woolston drove away from the opposition to take a c=mmanding win aboard his two-speed Intrepid kart.

Woolston may have had to withstand a challenge from Arrow driver Aaron=Rintoul in the final, but Rintoul lost a rear wheel through the double right-hander during the Pre-Final and was forced to start the final from the rear of the field.

As Woolston stormed to victory, Rintoul carved through the field to ta=e second place, ahead of Paul Hamilton, Tony Prendergast and David Whitmore.

While the Junior National Light field was small, it turned on an enthr=lling race, with Jordan Nicholaou and Liam Morey swapping the lead lap after lap.

Nicholaou eventually got the win by a mere 0.018 seconds at the line= a sensational drive for the young Victorian, who was driving with injured ribs.

Morey's efforts were stellar, with the CC Racing driver in only his =irst meeting in juniors after spending two seasons as one of Australia's premier drivers in the Rookies category.
