SPORTS COMPACT THRILLS SET FOR WILLOWBANK RACEWAY THIS WEEKEND

Willowbank Raceway will play host to Australia's largest Sport Compact drag racing event ˜ the Castrol EDGE Jamboree - this weekend August 23 and 24.

Complete with a full off-track support program and the Grand Final of =he Toyo Tires Sport Compact Drag Racing Series, the adrenalin will run high with as many as nine of the 11 class championships yet to be decided.

On top of the points chase, National Records are also set for a beatin= with the event traditionally one to see many of the speed and time records fall.

Sports Compact Group Manager Ray Box said the gloves will be off in a =eekend of non-stop action packed racing.

‘The program for the 18th Castrol EDGE Jamboree is set to explode th=s year with aspects such as the Show-N-Shine, sound display, club displays, Babes on Stage, traders and much more complementing the massive on-track action as the drivers and riders fight it out for their championships,’ said Box.

‘With nine of the 11 class championships still up for grabs and the =ational Records there to be beaten, fans can be assured of some knuckle-biting action over both the Saturday and Sunday at Willowbank Raceway.

"We have the biggest ever assembled field of Pro Turbo and Pro Compact=cars set to do battle this weekend.

"The Pro Turbo class will see 15 racers chasing glory with all the big=names in attendance including Anthony Daquino, Domenic Rigoli, George Rehayem, Ivan Skaramuca, Joe Signorelli, Nick Tsoltoudis, Rob Stanbury, Rod Harvey and Tony Wedlock along with a few new faces too."

"The Haltech Pro Compact guys are out in force too with 14 of Australi='s quickest 4 cylinder and 2 rotor cars. The entry list is a who's who of Sport Compact with Anthony Rodrigues making a welcome return to Willowbank Raceway along with names like Ben Bray, Bill Nabhan, Collin Willshire, George Marcevski, Jim Magliveras, Mark Borg, Matt White and Rodney Rehayem just to mention a few. "

Willowbank Raceway Managing Director Steve Bettes said he was looking =orward to inviting the Castrol EDGE Jamboree back to Queensland's premier drag racing facility for the 18th year running.

‘The Castrol EDGE Jamboree always provides two days of fast-paced sh=wmanship for the fans at Willowbank Raceway, and we are as always pleased to welcome them back to Ipswich,’ said Bettes.

‘With this acting as the last round of the Toyo Tires Sport Compact =rag Racing Series, I am anticipating some amazing racing with over $30,000 in Event and Championship Prize Money up for grabs as well as some great entertainment off-track.’

The Castrol EDGE Jamboree will act as a preliminary towards the first =unning of Willowbank Raceway's new-for-2008 event, the Spring Top Fuel Championships, which will feature all of the Professional action from Top Fuel, Top Alcohol, Top Bike and Pro Stock.

The Spring Top Fuel Championships will kick off a new season for Queen=land drag racing which will feature a bumper five major Professional Group One events, including the return of the International Nightfire New Year Series with two nitro spectaculars in January.
