ING is pleased to announce the launch of 'ING Explains', a series of short films that gives fans a unique VIP pass into the world of Formula 1, going inside the heart of the ING Renault F1 Team.

The ING Explains films simply and clearly answer the questions that most F1 fans ask us ˜ such as; ‏what are F1 cars made of?', and ‏how do I get a job in F1?'. With complete access inside the ING Renault F1 Team production facility at Enstone, Oxfordshire, the series of films offer an exclusive insight into the hidden aspects of F1 that most fans would otherwise never see.

The ING Explains series is launched with three films, each of three minutes duration. A further three films will be added in early autumn. All of the films are completely free for broadcasters and web hosts to use.

Film 1 ‏Carbonfibre' 3:00 mins.

Many race fans don't know how or why a modern F1 car is constructed of carbonfibre ˜ even the steering wheel is made from it. This film looks at the reasons why, and follows the production process, from the carbon fibre sheet being cut with a pair of scissors in a sealed room, right through to Fernando Alonso driving out of the pit garage cocooned in a carbon fibre safety cell designed to withstand the force of a 200mph crash.

Interviews with:
Ian Goddard, Senior Composites Engineer
Guy Rowles, Clean Room head

Film 2 ‏Design' 3:00 mins

Ever wondered how an F1 car's colour-scheme is designed? This film looks at the involved process behind what would seem to be a simple subject, yet is fraught with pitfalls. Designers have to consider not only how to make the sponsors' logos stand out, but how the colours look on TV in differing weather conditions, the use of light and shade on the car, and how aerodynamic aids interfere with the scheme. The film also looks at the painting process ˜ vitally important, when the paint can be a significant part of an F1's cars total weight and can affect how air flows around the car.

Interview:
Jon Woods, Head of Graphics

Film 3 ‏Working in F1 ˜ Part 1'. 3:00 mins

One of two films centred on getting a job in F1. While most fans see the mechanics and race engineers hard at work over the race weekend, the hundreds of development engineers and staff who stay hidden away from the gaze of the cameras are the unsung heroes. This film tracks two of the ING Renault F1 Team's development engineers, and looks at how they came to be working for one of the world's leading F1 teams.

Interviews:
Gerry O'Flaherty, Advanced Projects Designer Dr Catherine Caton, Composites Engineer
