The Confederation of Australian Motor Sport Ltd (CAMS) is committed to the future of production car racing in Australia while acknowledging the decision by SPHERIX to relinquish category management rights for the Australian Manufacturers' Championship (AMC) and the Australian Production Car Championship (APCC).

CAMS can confirm that this year's championships will still begin as =cheduled and is working closely with the Shannons Nationals organisers, SPHERIX and the Production Car Association of Australia (PCAA) to ensure the success of the Series for 2008.

The opening round of the 2008 AMC will be held as scheduled with a var=ed format on June 14-15 at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, a round of the Shannons Nationals Series.

Entries for the first round of the 2008 Championship at Phillip Island=and the remainder of the 2008 series can now be made through the Shannons Nationals administration team via nationals@curkpatrick.com.au

‘Production car racing has a rich history in Australian motorsport a=d CAMS looks upon this area of the sport as one of great importance,’ said CAMS CEO Graham Fountain.

‘While acknowledging the decision of SPHERIX, our sights are firmly =et on looking forward and working hard with the Shannons Nationals organisers, PCAA - and most importantly, the competitors - to ensure that the first round of the championships run smoothly and that we can build a healthy future for this category.’

Trevor Keene, President of the PCAA, says that the future of productio= car racing in Australia is bright.

‘The PCAA and its membership is fully committed to production car ra=ing in Australia,’ said Keene.

‘While the current situation is not ideal, we look forward to workin= closely with CAMS and the Shannons Nationals organisers on the future direction of this popular form of circuit racing.’

Rob Curkpatrick, Series Director of the Shannons Nationals Series, see= the Australian Manufacturers Championship as an important element to the Shannons Nationals program.

‘Production Car racing has always played an important role in Austra=ian motor racing and has been has a big part of the Shannons Nationals,’ said Curkpatrick.

‘We're looking forward to seeing it thrive as a successful champio=ship on a long-term basis.’

SPHERIX was appointed earlier this year as the new Category Manager fo= the championship and has been working with CAMS on class structure, vehicle eligibility and race formats for the 2008 series.

CAMS acknowledges the hard work completed to date by SPHERIX - led by =rincipals Bill West and Craig Denyer - and looks forward to continuing its healthy working relationship with SPHERIX in its role as Category Managers of the Yokohama V8 Utes Series and Bathurst 12 Hour Showroom Enduro at the WPS Bathurst 12 Hour.

‘Our role has been to ensure production car racing and the Bathurst =2 Hour Showroom Enduro support each other during the re-birth of the category, particularly as we are planning for the Bathurst 12 Hour event to be Round 1 of the Australian Manufacturers Championship in 2009,’ explained SPHERIX principals Craig Denyer and Bill West.

‘It's important that vehicle eligibility, technical regulations an= the class structure line up so the two entities can build and grow together.’
