With massive crowds expected to flock to the Harbour this weekend for the inaugural Sydney Superboat Grand Prix, organisers have put together a list of useful information to ensure spectators enjoy the free, adrenalin-charged excitement!
Spectator points on Sydney's harbour foreshore: Mrs Macquarie Point, Bradleys Head, Point Piper, Robertsons Point, Kurraba Point and Bennelong Point. (Please note: Garden Island is not accessible to the public on Sunday.)
Public Transport: It's recommended to leave the car at home and use public transport. For transport information visit www.131500.info or phone 13 15 00. There will be some extra public transport services operating on Saturday and Sunday to cater for the large crowds.
Travelling by train: The closest stations to vantage points include Milsons Point, St James, Kings Cross and Bondi Junction. Between 10am and 5pm on Saturday and Sunday services on the Eastern Suburbs Line will be operating every 10 minutes between Central and Bondi Junction. All other CityRail services are operating to a normal weekend timetable. Travelling by bus: Sydney Buses is operating to a normal weekend timetable.
Travelling by ferry: Some ferry services will be cancelled on Sunday during the exclusion zone operating times.
Roads: There will be some road closures and special event clearways in place. Those choosing to drive can expect traffic delays and parking difficulties. Motorists should check the RTA website www.rta.nsw.gov.au for details. When parking cars, motorists should check the signs as illegally parked vehicles will be towed and fines can apply.
On the water: The event area covers the waters encompassing Fort Dennison to Shark Island. Special navigation restrictions will be in place: Saturday 8 March ˜ Exclusion Zone from 1pm-3.15pm: Poll positioning from 2pm-3pm. Harbour traffic will be able to navigate in an anti-clockwise direction around the event. Sunday 9 March ˜ Exclusion Zone from 2.30pm-4.45pm: Racing from 3.30pm-4.30pm. Harbour traffic will NOT be able to navigate through or past the exclusion zone during this time.
The exclusion zones will be marked with buoys and patrolled by NSW Maritime vessels. Skippers of spectator vessels must remain outside of exclusion zones during the times of operation.
