A scale model of the $1 billion Salam Resort Bahrain was unveiled to the public yesterday at the Cityscape Abu Dhabi 2008 property exhibition.

Until now, only His Majesty King Hamad has been shown the model during a private meeting in Manama with the developers.

The resort is being developed by Sama Dubai, the international real estate investment and development arm of Dubai Holding.

Since its announcement, it is the first time that a scale model of the island resort's unique features is up for public viewing.

Located 45km from Bahrain World Trade Centre and close to Bahrain International Circuit, Salam Resort Bahrain will offer premium five-star service throughout its comprehensive range of facilities.

Phase one of the project will include a 288-room luxury beach hotel, seven waterfront hotel villas, a 20,000 sq/m state-of-the-art conference centre and six royal villas on a private island.

The second phase will encompass a residential community and retail outlets set in traditional suq style.

"Cityscape Abu Dhabi is an excellent opportunity to showcase Salam Resort Bahrain," said Sama Dubai executive chairman Farhan Faraidooni.

"As one of the largest of its kind in Bahrain, as well as the first luxury beach community on the untouched south western coast of the island, we are confident Salam Resort Bahrain will attract discerning investors seeking niche developments."

Construction works on the project began in September last year, with phase one expected to be completed next year.

Covering an area of 500,000 sq/m, the Salam Resort Bahrain will boast hotels, villas, suqs, health spas, shops and restaurants.

Salam Resort Bahrain will significantly contribute to the tourism industry in Bahrain, while opening up employment opportunities.

The project is a rich tribute to the traditions and colourful culture of Bahrain, reflected through its highly-detailed architectural design.

The resort will resemble a traditional Bahraini town in its aesthetic elements, luxurious facilities and overall ambience.
