Profile
Touch Galleries opened in November 2003 dedicated to selling the fine artwork by Nelson Mandela . A uniquely designed art space situated in the heart of the bustling Rocks precinct in Sydney Australia and is a heritage listed structure designed by prominent Victorian architect, William Wardell in 1884.
Nelson Mandela: quintessential peacemaker, global icon of racial reconciliation, political prisoner, president, statesman... artist.
The Robben Island Seriesby Nelson Mandela was sketched and completed by Nelson Mandela between March and June 2002 and is made up of 21 charcoal sketches from Robben Island. They are images that Nelson Mandela found deeply meaningful during the period of his incarceration on the island.
The sketches have been executed in simple black charcoal lines with sketched elements highlighted in pure pastel colours. The symbolism in Nelson Mandela's choice in use of line, colour and composition is significant. Colour has significant symbol value in African culture and it is this, and the simple use of line that plays a dominant role in all Nelson Mandela's drawings. These works produced by Nelson Mandela have proven to be an outstanding investment to date with most works appreciating well in excess of 200%.
We hope that you enjoy the images by and motivations created by one of the most important and respected figures of the century, Nelson Rolihlahla Dalibhunga Mandela. The processing, proofing and printing of the series was done under the supervision of the Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town by Professor Stephen Inggs and Tamarind Master Printer Ernestine White assisted by Russell Jones and Klaus Fricke.
All the printing materials and plates were destroyed on completion of the printing of the lithographs. Each piece of Nelson Mandela artwork comes with a Certificate of authenticity by the publisher as well as a forensic certificate of authenticity by Cecil Greenfield, Chief forensic examiner, South Africa.
