Lamb leads Jones and Chambliss on formation flight

Britain's Nigel Lamb led his compatriot Steve Jones as well as American Kirby Chambliss on the traditional pre-race ‘formation flight’ above Porto and Gaia ahead the weekend's Red Bull Air Race on the course just metres above the surface of the Douro River set up between the Dom Luis I and Arrábida bridges.

The three Red Bull Air Race World Series pilots were inspecting the course that runs in front of the two Portuguese cities on the Atlantic coast after Thursday's first training session that promised a tight race at the weekend -- eight of the 12 pilots posted times within 1.98 seconds of each other on the high-speed low-altitude course.

The Porto race, a highlight of the season that the pilots have been looking forward to after 600,000 spectators crowded in to watch last year's race won by Jones, is the penultimate battle of the 8-race World Championship. Britain's Paul Bonhomme only narrowly leads the table with 45 points and three victories in front of Austria's Hannes Arch, who has 45 points and one victory.
