Flying in the face of recession - the world's major economies may be slumping but the super-rich continue to want their high altitude toys. Airbus has said it has received its biggest single order for corporate aircraft - six A350 XWBs (which stands for Extra Wide Body) all to be fitted out with full VIP interiors, filling the space where normally around 300 passengers would sit.

The buyer is a Middle Eastern based aircraft broker, MAZ Aviation, on behalf of unnamed clients in the oil rich region. The planes sell for up to 150 million euros each, but that is without the luxury cabins, which industry experts say cost as much as 120 million euros to fit out.

The plane's owners will not be getting their flying palaces anytime soon. The A 350 is not due to go into service until 2013 and Airbus already has more than 350 orders for the aircraft.
